FAQ

Questions about this tool

How is EMI calculated?

This tool uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula: EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly instalments.

Why is total interest so much higher on a long-tenure loan?

Interest is charged on the remaining balance every month, so a longer tenure means more months of interest accruing, even though each individual EMI is smaller.

What does the amortisation schedule show?

For every month of the loan, it breaks down how much of that month's EMI goes toward interest versus principal, and the remaining loan balance afterward — early payments are mostly interest, later ones mostly principal.

Does this include processing fees or other charges?

No, this calculates pure EMI based on principal, rate and tenure — any processing fees, insurance, or other charges your lender adds are not included and should be factored in separately.
