FAQ

Questions about this tool

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally between CGST (central) and SGST (state) — each is half the total rate. For a sale between different states, the full rate is charged as a single IGST (integrated GST) instead.

How does "Remove GST" work?

If your amount already includes GST, this mode divides it by (1 + rate/100) to find the original base amount, then shows the tax as the difference — useful when you have a final price and need to know the pre-tax value.

Which GST rate should I use?

Rates depend on the specific goods or service under Indian GST law — 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% are the most common slabs, with 0.25% and 3% applying to specific categories like precious stones and gold. Check current official rates for your exact item.

Is this specific to Indian GST?

Yes, the slabs and CGST/SGST/IGST structure follow India's GST system. The underlying add/remove tax math would work for a general sales tax too, just without the specific slab presets.
