FAQ

Questions about this tool

Why is the output .webm instead of .mp4?

Browsers' native MediaRecorder API only supports encoding to formats like WebM without server-side processing — producing MP4 directly in-browser isn't supported. Most modern video players and editors accept WebM directly, or you can convert it afterward with a video converter.

Does this upload my screen recording anywhere?

No — recording happens entirely through your browser's built-in screen-capture and MediaRecorder APIs, and the resulting file is only ever saved to your own device when you click download.

Can I record just one browser tab instead of my whole screen?

Yes — when you click Start recording, your browser's picker lets you choose between your entire screen, a specific application window, or a single browser tab.

Why does my browser ask for permission every time?

Screen and microphone access require explicit permission for privacy and security reasons — browsers request this each session so no site can silently start recording your screen.
