FAQ

Questions about this tool

Which browsers support this?

The Web Speech API's recognition feature works in Chrome and Edge on desktop and Android. Firefox and Safari do not support it, and this page shows a clear notice if your browser can't use it.

Is my voice sent to a server?

Speech recognition in Chrome and Edge is processed via Google's speech recognition service in the background (built into the browser's Web Speech API implementation) — this website itself never receives or stores your audio, since everything happens through the browser's own API.

What punctuation words are supported?

"Comma", "period" (or "full stop"), "question mark", "exclamation mark" and "new line" are recognized and converted to their symbols automatically as you dictate.

Why does it stop listening after a pause?

Some browsers automatically pause recognition after a few seconds of silence — click Start dictation again to resume, your existing text stays in the box.
