FAQ

Questions about this tool

Does compressing an image reduce its dimensions?

No, by default the width and height stay exactly the same — only the file size shrinks. Compression works by reducing how much data is used to store the same pixel grid, mainly through smarter JPEG/WEBP encoding, not by shrinking the picture.

What is the difference between Quality mode and Target size mode?

Quality mode lets you pick a compression strength directly (higher keeps more detail, lower gives a smaller file). Target size mode does the opposite: you tell it the KB you need — for example for a government form upload limit — and it attempts to reduce the output to that size. Always check the downloaded file; the target cannot be guaranteed for every image.

Can I compress PNG files, or only JPG?

Both, plus WEBP. PNG compression is lossless-leaning and tends to save less than JPG on photos, but works well on screenshots and graphics. For maximum size reduction on a photo, converting to JPG or WEBP first usually helps.

Is there a limit to how many images I can compress?

Files are processed one after another, but each file is limited to 100 MB and large batches can exhaust a phone’s memory. Try a smaller batch if processing stalls.
